My first day at my field experience was pretty great. The staff was welcoming and the kids were just adorable! At first they were very shy, but it didn't take long for them to warm up to me and sure enough they were coming up all at once showing me all their toys. I got to know each child's personality and their level of development, which gave me ideas of how I can create my lesson plan that will work well with this group of children. My goals for next week is to start working with the children more on small play activities that can help me see further on how far they are in labeling objects, numbers, and colors.
I believe that one of my strengths so far has been being familiar with being around infants because of family. I've been taking care of children since I was 17. I learned a lot from seeing them grow up in regards to seeing what stage they start developing certain things and also noticing nonverbal cues. This helped during my first day because I was able to know what the nonverbal cues given by the children meant. Such as when they no longer wanted to color. One of the little girls kept giving me her crayons back by putting them in my hand and waving her hand over the paper letting me know that she was done coloring. Knowing how to recognize what the children are trying to tell me helps with keeping them calm and not letting them get to the level of frustration.
I enjoyed reading your blog and how you set goal/expectations for yourself in which will help you set up your lesson plan. I also liked how you responding to their cues and being attentive.
